Transmission Service Shop Recondition Problems
Transmission rebuild for your wheels is something that is not always easy and unfortunately there are tons reasons for this. However the huge majority of these reasons fall into a few categories. The beginning is a lack of proper communication at the time the car is checked in to the transmission repair business.
This is primarily the fault of the transmission service shop due to unschooled or uninterested service advisors. However, even the best courtesy advisor will not always get the best information on the vehicle's transmission performance problem for the repairman. One reason for this is because the customer does not provide an correct picture of the transmission problems that the passenger car has been experiencing.
The job of the overhaul advisor is to ask the customer questions so that they can provide the transmission grease monkey with perfect representation so that the transmission mechanic will know which system to check without wasting time. Another complication can be caused by the advisor asking the wrong questions. If this happens the transmission mechanic will take the erroneous representation that has been relayed to the repair advisor and it will lead the transmission technician to believe that the incorrect system is having a problem.
The reason for this is because today's transmissions are both hydraulic and electric and this is also due to the fact that a noise or vibration can often be difficult to pinpoint, and can appear to come from different places on car's transmission at the same time. Since the customer has spent more time with jeep than either the overhaul writer or the technician, they are often able to give a good rundown of the area and the time at which they have noticed the complication which will make pinpointing the complication much easier for the technician.
The second category that makes transmission repair difficult is often blatant dishonesty on the part of an individual transmission mechanic or the entire transmission service store. The reason this can occur is because many transmission service shops don't follow a labor repair guide which estimates how long it should take a transmission mechanic to complete an overhaul.
Auto Fix shops use labor guides to determine how much to charge a customer because the longer an overhaul will take, the more the factory will charge and the more the technician will make because of the extra time involved in completing the repair. But most transmission shops don't charge based on the labor guide because the labor guide will usually call for an excessive amount of hours to properly complete a transmission service.
So instead they just quote the maximum price that they think they customer will agree to pay. The final category that is a major cause of difficulty in a transmission fix is the lack of proper technician training which causes the misdiagnosis of the vehicle's transmission problem. Each year there are dozens of models of vehicles produced by dozens of manufacturers.
When you multiply the number of manufacturers by the number of different models it is easy to see that each year a transmission mechanic must continue to learn and develop their skills. Each day there are thousands of transmissions successfully fixed in United States. Proper communication combined with customer concern and an honest transmission fix facility will make sure your vehicle's transmission is repaired right the first time, and at the appropriate price.
